Parking Lot Moments With Jesus

Share Article

God speaks. He speaks to you. He speaks to me.

God speaks. He speaks in His Word. He speaks through song.

God speaks. He speaks through leaders. He speaks through books.

God speaks. He speaks in my car. He spoke this morning.

God is everywhere, but that is a truth we learn early on. Do we honestly grasp the truth that “God is everywhere”? Not always. Since God is everywhere, He can speak everywhere too, right? Too often we associate God only speaking on Sunday mornings or in our devotion time, but we quickly forget about God throughout or weekly routines. If we truly believe that yes, God is everywhere, then shouldn’t we also expect to hear from Him everywhere too?

This morning I had to go to school a little bit earlier than usual for my sister to talk with a teacher. So I decided to sit in the car for a little bit and just spend some time with Jesus. Hey, I am trying to live what I think here! So I opened up my Bible to the daily readings and I was amazed at how God was truly speaking to me! It felt as if He had placed every verse into my reading plan for specifically that moment–a moment spent in my school parking lot! After I read God’s Word, I was curious to see if just maybe God would also have a song on the radio to guide me through my day–you know, a song specifically for me. Well, as soon as I turned on the radio station, a song came on reminding me that “this is the day you have made! I will rejoice and be glad in it. And I will stand upon your Word.” Wow, OK so about this time I was stunned. God had specifically spoken to me through His Word and then through a song! Throughout the rest of my day, my thoughts kept drifting back to moments spent with Jesus in my school parking lot. And what a difference those moments made!

You see, God is everywhere (including school parking lots!) and God speaks everywhere. Sometimes we are just too busy to hear it.

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”
