Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
–Colossians 3:5, 9-10
We all struggle with sin; we are human–end of story! But after we become a Christian, it is easy to adopt the mindset that we will never struggle with sin. Well, that is definitely a lie! We may not struggle with the same sins that we struggled with before we became a Christian, but we will definitely struggle. It is the devil’s dream to get us to falter. But, we need to utterly kill the sin in our lives–show no mercy! Fight against temptations with everything in you. How in the world do we fight against temptation–know the Word of God! When we truly meditate on Jesus’ Words, we adopt His mindset. So when you want to take revenge on someone, you will show them forgiveness instead.
Today I struggled with this very subject. My form of temptation was to not have confidence in Jesus alone. David Nasser says that fighting temptation is not an emotion, it is a choice. Today I made the choice to fight and tomorrow I will make the choice to fight against the temptations that try to make me fall. My focus–Jesus Christ. He will clothe me with everything that I need….strength to resist, forgiveness to forgive, and love to bestow upon others. I just need to keep my focus on Him alone.
