Over the past several weeks there has been apprehension, worry, and even anger in the lives of our fellow citizens. Many changes are happening in our country with regards to the economy, the way our government is run and functions, and who our government leaders are. As a young person, it is so easy to think that–#1I can’t do anything that will make a difference in our government and #2 that there really is no hope for our country. But both of these statements are absolute lies! If anything, young people may have the most influence over our country and the reason it feels otherwise is because we are not standing up! As for the second statement, there is definitely hope for our country. Greater things have yet to come. . .
While there are many monumental changes happening around us, it is extremely important to keep our eyes on Jesus Christ. He already knows what is going to happen on election day and He already knows which way our economy is going. Don’t worry. Place your worry into God’s hands. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” Worrying will not help settle anything in the economy or the world around us, but trusting God will do a whole lot!
There is hope for our world. There is hope if we turn to Jesus for the answers. I love Chris Tomlin’s song, “God of this City.” The words go like this:
“You’re the God of this city
You’re the King of these people
You’re the Lord of this nation
You Are
For there is no one like our God
There is no one like our God
Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Greater things are still to come
And greater things are still to be done here
You’re the Lord of Creation
The Creator of all things
You’re the King above all Kings
You Are
You’re the strength in our weakness
You’re the love to the broken
You’re the joy in the sadness
You Are
Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Where glory shines from hearts alive
With praise for you and love for you
In this city
Greater things have yet to come
Great things are still to be done
In this city
Greater things are still to come
And greater things are still to be done here”
Did you really read those lyrics? Greater things really are to come to America!–But only when we trust God. Nothing can happen when we worry and fret over things that we cannot control.
But, did you know that there are things that you can do to make a difference? First of all, stay up-to-date on current issues. Secondly, know the facts about both presidential candidates. You can also get involved through The Rebelution–a teenage rebellion against low expectations. Also, please pray for our country and our country’s leaders. Pray for guidance and wisdom as they lead our country.
Need some steps to move forward? Check out 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” So, what does the Bible tell us to do? Always be joyful (no matter what!), pray continually (all the time and for everything!), and give thanks in everything (good and bad!). Pretty straightforward, don’t you think?
You can make a difference–be the change!
