What do you think of when Easter rolls around? Maybe the famous Easter Bunny comes to mind or maybe your mouth begins to water as you think of the chocolate candies. Either way, is chocolate and a bunny what Easter is all about?
When I was little, my parents never really did the whole “Easter basket” thing because they wanted me and my sister to really understand the importance of this special day. Most of us have grown up hearing the story of Jesus over and over again! You know, the birth and death of Jesus and then His resurrection. But we never really allow the significance of these events to sink deeply into our hearts. Jesus died because He loved us so much! But death could not defeat the God of the universe! Three days after death, Jesus rose back to life to be with us forever! Jesus has given us the choice to either accept Him or reject Him. When He rose again that third day, He proved that He can conquer and do anything!
Wow! That really encourages me! God can do anything! That means He can comfort me through anything, guide me through anything, hug me through anything, and use me through anything! There is nothing that God cannot do. That is the significance of Easter. On this special day, Jesus showed the power of His love for us. If we accept Him into our hearts and crown Him as our Lord and Savior, then He can use His power in our lives. And believe me, He has SO much power. Hello, if He came back from the dead (which just for the record is not normal!) He has immense power! Incredible.
I think the song that describes Easter the most is Nicole C. Mullen’s song Redeemer.
Who taught the sun where to stand in the morning?
Who told the ocean you can only come this far?
Who showed the moon where to hide ’til evening?
Whose words alone can catch a falling star?
Well I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
All of creation testify
This life within me cries
I know my Redeemer lives
The very same God that spins things in orbit
He runs to the weary, the worn and the weak
And the same gentle hands that hold me when I’m broken
They conquered death to bring me victory
Now I know my Redeemer lives I know my Redeemer lives
Let all creation testify
Let this life within me cry I know my Redeemer, He lives
To take away my shame
And He lives forever, I’ll proclaim
That the payment for my sin
Was the precious life He gave
But now He’s alive and
There’s an empty grave
Now I know my Redeemer lives
I know my Redeemer lives
Let all creation testify
Let this life within me cry I know my Redeemer, He lives
So, in a nutshell, Easter is about celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and His power over death. Now that is something worth celebrating!
