Life can can throw us curve balls. Things don’t go our way. We lose our job, fail a test, lose a friend. We are shaken by our circumstances, but we can stand on character. The question we must ask ourselves is how can I experience the joy of God through these trials? Psalm 15 is a great outline for standing in the midst of adversity. First and foremost verse 1 tells us to put God first! We need to make Him the center and the pointe for our lives. Not the second or third, but the very first. To stand when shaken, we must also set our personal foundation. Does your private life match your public life? In your relational responsibilities, do your words build others up or tear them down? Psalm 15 also gives us instructional wisdom in who we honor, why commitment matters, how we relate to money, and what we will enjoy if we stay standing. You may be shaken by circumstances, but with God you can remain standing!
Psalm 15
LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who may live on your holy hill?
He whose walk is blameless
and who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from his heart
and has no slander on his tongue,
who does his neighbor no wrong
and casts no slur on his fellowman,
who despises a vile man
but honors those who fear the LORD,
who keeps his oath
even when it hurts,
who lends his money without usury
and does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
He who does these things
will never be shaken.
