Know Your Worth: 5 Truths About Your Value

Share Article

It’s not every morning we wake up and feel amazing. Let’s face it, some days we all wrestle with what we’re worth. The key to having a firm grip on our identity is knowing who we are and whose we are. When the struggle is real, take a moment to remind yourself of these five truths:

1. You are a masterpiece.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” –Ephesians 2:10 NLT

A masterpiece is an artist’s most beloved and treasured handiwork. This scripture reveals that not only are we God’s masterpiece, but He has dreamt about the time you would walk the earth since the beginning. You were made for a purpose, and when God looks at you He is so full of joy. He has a Master Plan—and you are an intricate piece of that plan. Never forget that you are a prized masterpiece to the Maker and Master of the universe.

2. God loves you with an unconditional love.

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” –Romans 5:8 NLT

The love God has for us is undaunted by our misses, messes and imperfections. Even while we were sinners––living life apart from God––He poured out love for us by sending His own Son Jesus to make things right and restore a relationship with us. God put on skin and became human because we were worth the expense. His expression of love on a cross says that He believes we are worth dying for, and there is nothing we do or don’t do that can change His mind.

3. You are adopted as His own.

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” –Ephesians 1:5 NLT

Our lives are in the hands of the most loving and faithful Father there is. He reached out to us with open arms and invited us in as his daughters and sons. He has given us full access to everything we need on this journey called life. Being adopted in His family means you have a home with Him, and like a kid who can open the fridge without needing to ask permission, we can boldly take hold of the promises and provisions God has extended to us. He wants to provide for us, knows what’s best for us, and thinks the world of us all because he sees us as his own.

4. The One who created you has the final say.

“Make your motions and cast your votes, but God has the final say.” –Proverbs 16:33 MSG

Even when we don’t feel worthy, the God of the universe has already made up His mind. Regardless of the voices around us that try to devalue who we are, or through the life experiences that shake us up, God ultimately has the last word. He made us, has great plans for us, and wants the best for us. At the end of the day, as much value as we give or don’t give ourselves, it’s not up to us. We are worth everything to the almighty, all-knowing, all-powerful God who loves us.

5. Our value must come from God, not people.

Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.” –James 1:17 NLT

People are imperfect. Because we are all human, there’s a danger in leaning on others to find our affirmation. People will fail us, but we can place our trust in a God who is infallible. He is a rock we can depend upon through the shifting shadows in our heart and mind. Know that God affirms you. He goes behind and before you. Only He is able to define our worth and declare our value.

Your Heavenly Father wants to speak into your life with more encouragement, wisdom, and adoration your heart can hold. As we read his Word, we discover all the ways He tells us how valuable we are to Him. Repeat these truths to yourself as may times as it takes until you know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God has marked you worthy—and that’s not up for debate.
